Wireless Upgrade Case Study

  • Apr 14
  • 2 min read

Project: Corporate Government Building

Client: Confidential

Location: Dubai, UAE

Facility Type:  Corporate Office

Scope: Wi-Fi Site Survey, Heatmaps Design, AP placement design, and optimization

Outcome: Improved coverage, stability, and user experience across key areas

The Challenge

The client was experiencing recurring wireless issues affecting daily operations and user experience, including:

· Dead zones in critical areas such as office areas and lobbies.

· Performance drops during peak usage.

· Roaming disconnects for users moving between zones

· Inconsistent signal quality due to interference and layout constraints

These issues impacted on staff productivity and required a structured wireless redesign.

Our Approach

WavePlanners delivered a full wireless assessment and improvement plan using enterprise-grade methodology:

1. Site Survey & Wireless Assessment

We conducted a combination of active and passive surveys to measure real RF behavior, identify interference patterns, and map coverage across:

· Office Areas

· Corridors

· Lobbies

2. Heatmaps & RF Analysis

Using Ekahau we developed heatmaps for:

· Signal Strength

· Signal Quality (SNR)

· Interference / channel overlap

· Coverage risk zones

This allowed us to pinpoint why users were experiencing instability and where improvements would deliver the greatest impact.

3. AP Placement Strategy

We redesigned AP placement to achieve consistent coverage and better roaming by:

· Adjusting AP locations based on real propagation behavior

· Optimizing overlap for roaming without creating interference

· Recommending mounting heights and placement guidelines per zone

Key Improvements Implemented

After review and validation, WavePlanners delivered an optimized design focused on:

· Improved coverage in office zones, lobby areas and corridors

· Reduced interference by improving channel reuse strategy

· Better roaming performance along corridors and transition zones

· More stable performance

Results:

· Coverage improved in key zones

· Reduced guest/staff complaints regarding Wi-Fi issues

· Improved stability and roaming between critical areas

· Better performance during peak periods (high density)

What This Means for Similar Venues:This project highlights a common pattern: Wi-Fi issues in large venues are rarely fixed by simply “adding more access points.” The best outcomes come from:

· Proper site surveys

· Correct heatmap interpretation

· Strategic AP placement

· Validation before installation

· Professional tuning and optimization
